I majored in math at UC Berkeley, worked in neuroscience research at U of M for six years, and went to grad school at Stanford. I got 1520/1600 on the SAT and 1600/1600 on the GRE. Right now I'm working exclusively as a tutor, because it's what I enjoy the most. I have six years of professional tutoring or teaching experience, plus lots of volunteer experience. In addition to regular one-on-one tutoring, I've taught classes for the MathCorps and Academic Games enrichment programs, which introduce kids to the more interesting and exciting aspects of math. I have experience working with students from elementary school up to age 81.
I would say my biggest strengths as a tutor are, first of all, an ability to come up with clear explanations for tricky concepts, and second of all, a nonjudgmental and easygoing attitude. As a tutor I make sure students have a solid grasp of the material so they can do a range of problems on their own without my help. I try to have the material make sense and not just be a collection of arbitrary rules. I use lots of examples and analogies to help students have an intuitive sense of how the math works.
I look forward to helping you with your math problems!
