I am a PhD student in physics at MSU. I did my undergraduate work in mathematics at the University of Minnesota. I hold MA junior high school and high school teaching licenses for physics and mathematics, both for grades 5 -12. I'm also a former Princeton Review test prep instructor, and a highly experienced private tutor. I can help you with:
•AP Calculus AB/BC
•Math SAT II level I or level IIC
•Most college mathematics courses
•MCAT, except for biological sciences
•MTEL general exam, physics, and mathematics
I have perfect scores on many math and science standardized exams, and have gotten 99th percentile scores on the verbal sections of the PSAT, SAT, GRE, and GMAT. I recently (12/3/2009) sat for the GRE to get a current score to support a fellowship application, and received an 800 on the quantitative section and a 790 on the verbal section. I have edited college applications, graduate school applications, grant applications, and one successful Rhodes Scholarship application. I love physics, but sometimes I wish I had been a dramaturge, and I think I'd make a good one : ) You can be confident that I can help you with the subjects I've listed that are outside the sciences, and in fact I am an excellent one-stop-shopping resource for your own or your child's college application campaign.
I have taken a year of general and organic chemistry and gotten A's in biology, and I've studied PChem. There are better tutors for biology and for organic chemistry, but I'm a very good inorganic, general, A.P, and high school chem tutor.
I have tutored privately in the Wellesley area for about a year. I have 6 years of college teaching and tutoring experience, and I am happy to share references with you.
I am good at helping students see fast gains on standardized exams scores, by tapping into what they have already learned and also inculcating confidence as well as an understanding of the game theory of the exam.
My style is to help you use the muscles you have already built in your academic training and general life before giving you new tools, with the goal being to help you discover that the thing in front of you is not all that scary after all. I want you to, as quickly as possible, no longer need my services nor those of any other tutor. I like sharing my strengths and seeing my students succeed.
Good luck, and please email any questions!
I have edited successful college, MBA, scholarship, graduate fellowship, and grant applications, as well as one winning Rhodes scholarship essay. I have also managed strategy for several college application campaigns.
I taught a GMAT math prep course for the Princeton Review briefly before accepting another job. I got the job by scoring 99th percentile on a practice exam and by having a good trial teaching interview. I also have a math degree, and am working on a physics PhD, and have great standardized exam scores.
I have helped several undergraduate math, c.s., and philosophy students, as well as two philosophy PhD students, with graduate level logic, and I studied logic while obtaining my undergraduate degree.
I'm a PhD student in theoretical physics with years of experience teaching and tutoring physics. I also have perfect scores on the quantitative sections of many standardized exams, and 99th percentile scores on the verbal sections of many exams. I can readily tutor for all sections of the MCAT except for the biological sciences section.
I hold high school and junior high school teaching licenses, for physics, mathematics, and general science. For licensure I took, and received a perfect score on, the teaching exam given in Massachusetts. I have taught and tutored for standardized exams for 15 years.
I have years of experience teaching and tutoring physics and math to college students with a wide variety of preparedness and interest. I also have developed coping strategies for handling my own workload while caring for my daughter and spending time with my family. I am happy to help with inculcating good study skills.
