I strongly believe that quality, innovative, differentiated education should be accessible to people of all backgrounds and ages across the spectrum from basic foundations to picking up a language or hobby later in life. I am especially passionate about quality foundations for K-2 elementary students. I believe that when children's hearts are captured with a curiosity for learning at a young age and provided strong foundations in literacy and math it has a tremendous impact on the rest of their education - indeed it positively impacts the rest of their lives. I live in Detroit and currently work as a K/1 ESL, Reading and Math Interventionist at a school in SW Detroit. I have previously worked as a literacy, phonics and reading tutor, a Montessori elementary and Spanish teacher, and a toddler teacher. I have also worked with Reading and Language Arts Centers and am certified as a Phonics First tutor - a program focused on the Orton-Gillingham multisensory phonics curriculum. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
