I live in Detroit and currently work as a K/1 ESL, Reading and Math Interventionist at a school in SW Detroit. I have previously worked as a reading tutor, a Montessori elementary and Spanish teacher, and a toddler teacher. I have also worked with Reading and Language Arts Centers and am certified as a Phonics First tutor - a program focused on the Orton-Gillingham multisensory phonics curriculum. I believe in individualized and creative approaches to help every student succeed!
My love for teaching started through teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes at my home church throughout high school and grew during college as I worked during the school year for four years at a school in Detroit with kindergarteners through third graders, designing individualized lesson plans in reading and writing and growing a relationship with them over the course of the school year.
I'm a recent graduate from U of M. I studied Linguistics and Spanish and plan to pursue certification in ESL and Elementary Education at EMU this coming winter. I love learning languages, traveling, reading, writing, and teaching! I also love doing arts and crafts with children, creating games and doing whatever it takes to make learning fun! I love children and look forward to meeting you and your family!
I work as an elementary and Spanish teacher at a small Montessori school in Detroit. I currently work with a student with ADD/ADHD at a Montessori school in Detroit. I believe that it is important not to label him as different nor disabled but simply to help him approach his school work in short, focused bursts and to find hands-on ways for him to engage in his learning.
I currently work at a small Detroit school. One of my students has autism. Working with him over the course of the year, I've worked to provide a stable environment where he has been able to thrive academically and learn on par with his peers as well as begin to discover his individual gifts. Hands-on work has also been extremely effective in helping him learn.
I currently work as an elementary and Spanish teacher at a small montessori school in the city. I love my job and working with kids toward their potential and am looking for additional teaching experience on the side! I have worked during the school year for the past four years at a school in Detroit with kindergartners through third graders, designing individualized lesson plans in reading and writing and growing a relationship with them over the course of the school year. The past two summers I tutored for individual families and also designed curriculum for and co-taught classes for children learning English as a second language. I also worked during one school year as a tutor and mentor for a third grade boy struggling in math, reading, and writing. At the beginning of the year, he hated all three because they were a struggle, but over the course of the year, as we worked together twice a week, he developed a love for all three and an eagerness to learn more!
