I encourage students to use their own knowledge, gifts and talents, and build upon those as a writing tutor. I do not do the work for them. I help them enhance what they bring to the table in hopes that they become more independent writers and thinkers.
I am a quick study with high academic achievements.
I have tutored all ages and grade levels and abilities, from elementary to graduate level students. I have been working with one woman for several years as an editor, as I helped her during her master's degree and still edit her employment documents.
I am an accomplished journalist. I have also written a screenplay and am working on my first novel.
Writing and teaching are two of my greatest talents. I spent eight years teaching community college English.
I am able to easily monitor where students are in their abilities, and what degree of help they are in need of.
One of the greatest rewards I receive from tutoring is when students experience "ah-ha" or lightbulb moments; when they come to understand something that they have been, to that point, struggling with. It is then that I, the tutor, and the student have both done our jobs effectively. It is my desire and purpose to guide the student through the material until they have mastered it themselves.
I hope that this provides you with the knowledge you need to decide whether I am the best tutor for you.
