I am a certified teacher of English and history. I am a HUGE history buff, but I also have great passion for English literature and language. I have experience tutoring for the ACT with a program called "Letters to Success" (through the University of Michigan) as well as extensive experience with writing. I have tutored students in writing and I even created a unit of lessons where I taught writing during my student teaching experience with favorable results.
My tutoring style is individualized, and I prefer to tutor one on one. As a trained teacher, I start by observing then analyzing problem areas, unless they are presented to me right away. Especially because of my student teaching experience, I like to say that I have a whole "bag of tricks" to fix grammar and writing issues. I am trained mostly in teaching English, so I know of several proven teaching methods that I could utilize to help my clients. In regard to tutoring history, though, I do not have extensive teacher's training in it. I know my facts well, have a basic understanding of how to instruct history, and know how to study for history exams.
I take my chosen profession of teaching very seriously. I believe it is my duty to employ every resource that I have to work with students ethically and productively. These "resources" include my own knowledge and the expertise of my colleagues, the student's prior knowledge, and that student's support system (i.e. parents and guardians). I work hard to offer every student in my charge the chance for academic success.
