Hello!

I am a 7th/8th grade teacher at a local charter school, in my third year in this position. I have also taught all subjects in summer school and worked as a basketball coach and played for several years. Incorporating sports into my instruction is pretty common, and it is often very helpful for boys and girls who are interested in sports, but struggle with math.

My educational background is a broad one. I completed my BA at Michigan State, studying communications. After graduating, I gained work experience in the business and marketing fields. I decided to return to school to teach, earning my elementary education certificate from Eastern Michigan. I am certified to teach all subjects in grades K-5, and math and social studies in grades 6-8. To further my education, I am starting a graduate program at the University of Michigan this fall, which will focus on incorporating digital media into instruction.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I have been conducting coaching clinics and worked as a coach for several years. This has included experiences with students as young as second grade, all the way up to 12th grade. Most recently, I coached a middle school girls basketball team, as well as a freshman boys team.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified elementary teacher for grades K-6, all subjects. I have experience teaching both math and social studies to students in grades 6-8. I have also taught all subjects in a summer school format, as recent as the summer of 2012.
