I am a very qualified, patient, ambitious, eager young man looking to tutor young students of the K-12 age, who are determined to move forward with their endeavors in life. As an undergraduate at Western Michigan University, I have worked as a First Year Experience Student co-facilitator in the Haworth College of Business, assisting a professor to not only teach a first-year experience program class, but also to mentor and tutor the students as they learned about university life. I learned greatly how to interact with students both in-class, and out of class through email and cell phone. Furthermore, this past summer, I went to one of my old elementary schools and gave a lecture to 3rd graders about the dangers of smoking and how to be anti-tobacco. The class was one that was led by my 4th grade teacher from 12 years ago. The students greatly enjoyed my lecture, learned a great deal, and I was praised by my teacher. I have great knowledge in basic math, business and marketing, Spanish, and history. I would absolutely cherish the opportunity to help young students learn.
I am available in the Kalamazoo, MI area starting in early May 2013, and can tutor all through the summer, while students are home, as well as for the entire 2013-2014 school year starting in August/September.
My dream is to become a working professional actor and comedian. However, I understand I must work hard before coming to that goal, and that it will not be easy, and also that it will require time and patience. I believe that I have tremendous people skills; working with others is something that I have always enjoyed.
I played baseball from 3rd grade to 6th grade, and have been actively involved in watching and occasionally playing the sport since. I have a very good swing, and run fast on the baselines from my excellent track-star speed that I obtained in high school running track. I played and watched organized softball these last 2 summers, and understand how to coach bases. I learned how to hit and to not be afraid of the ball, and also to not swing at everything. In addition to organized wiffleball, I have helped my sister's baseball/softball teams in years past, and am very committed to and passionate about coaching people to learn the great American game of baseball.
Basketball is a sport which I greatly love, am very talented at, and have been playing actively since the 4th grade. Having shot my first basketball in the 2nd grade, through hard work and tireless sessions at the gym, I am now able to dunk on a 10-foot hoop. I love teaching the game to young children, because it gives me an opportunity to give somebody the chance to be a future star, while also expanding their horizons in the sports realm. While on a study abroad trip in Germany during May of 2011, we stayed at a youth hostel, where I taught some young German kids - who were very into the NBA - how to play some basketball, while giving them opportunities to score and dunk.
I played football my senior year of high school, and while that was only one season of organized football, I learned a great deal as a backup wide receiver, not only about pass catching and route-running techniques, but about how to be an effective scout team player, as well as how to use my hands for getting open and blocking defensive backs, too. I have played flag football in college, serving as my team captain for a season sophomore year, scoring touchdowns and getting interceptions, while also taking a few snaps at QB. Football is my passion and I want young children to learn the game to become future stars.
I am excellent in Geometry, and understand very well the conceptual and mathematical aspects of the subject. In addition, I enjoy teaching people how to learn about shapes, angles, sizes, relative positions, and formulas. I took basic classes in middle school, and another one during my freshman year of high school. In addition, I performed extremely well on my ACT Math section when I took the test in the spring of 2008. Geometry is a subject I like to a large extent, and will want to help other people understand it better.
I am a devoted, fluent, passionate Spanish speaker. From taking my first class in the language 10 years ago, to studying it as my minor in college for 4+ semesters, I have a love and great understanding for the language. My Spanish skills are very exceptional in both writing and speaking; I can speak very fluently with an appropriate accent, and in addition, I am excellent with writing and the symbols. My grades in Spanish classes were always high As (with a few Bs), and I worked very well with my professors in college, as well as my teachers in grade school.
