Hello, my name is Tom.
I have been teaching as a support educator for 3 years. I have taught many grades and many subjects including art, science, math and special education. The ages I have experience with also varies from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade, as I have chosen to teach wherever needed.
My main experience is in the sciences and art. I have a degree in geoscience with a minor in environmental science. In this degree I have chosen to also focus on sociology and human growth and development as well as geography and anthropology. Geoscience is better known as Earth science and is rooted in the study of the physics of Earth. Earth science is meteorology, oceanography, astronomy and geology. Each section has fundamental foundations associated such as chemistry, physics, statistics, scientific process and lab work. With my minor I focused on the connections that the living world has on its surroundings such as forest ecology, wetland environments, and geomorphology, which focuses on the changing landscapes of the world.
I enjoy linking science to much of my teaching because I believe the subject is fundamental to understanding how many things work. In my focuses that are not reported as a minor I have taken multiple linking classes to better understand subjects of interest. In geography I have taken environmental geography, natural resources and multiple mapping classes. In sociology I have taken the intro class, sociological theory, human growth and development and teaching as a profession. As far as anthropology goes, I have studied cultural anthropology and archaeology.
Outside of my college degree I have had a long history in art, both drawing and painting. My family has two professional artists, and I grew up learning from an early age. I have taught art in both a middle school and elementary school levels and should be in the 2012 art shows in the local area.
I hope this helps in getting to know me and I would love to work with any age and level including special education and special needs, which I have experience with at the Hollis elementary school.
