If you have gotten a new camera, or are getting one for Christmas, and want to know how to use it, I am your guy : I have been teaching the Portland Adult Education basic "How to Use Your 35mm Camera" class since 1990 or thereabouts. That is a nuts and bolts class that explains how a camera works, what the knobs, switches, and dials do, how apertures, shutter speed, and film speeds all inter-relate, etc. We get into color balance, composition, digital files, capture, film, filters, quite a bit of stuff. It's a class for people who want to know how to get the picture they see in their mind's eye out onto the print.

I am a freelance commercial/editorial/aerial photographer in Portland, Maine. I started in photography in 1965 as a high school student photographer, was a photographer in the US Air Force for 4 years 1969-73, and got a BFA in Photojournalism from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1977. I went from there to being a photography editor for the Associated Press in New York for 3 years. I left that in 1981 to start a freelance business in Portland, where I am to this day.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

I've been using Photoshop for 15 years in my business. It's a "deep" program, and fun! "Practice makes perfect" as they say, so if you'd like to get started, let me know!
