My name is Stephen. I am 57 years old, a graduate of Harvard University class of 1974 where I obtained a Bachelor's degree with a major in Anthropology and a minor in pre-medical studies. I hold two graduate degrees from Princeton Seminary: the first in 1978 where I concentrated on education and the cultural foundations of education. During my second degree at Princeton (ThM, 1984) I did doctoral level research in the philosophy of science. Much of my research has been in the impact that 20th century physics (i.e., quantum mechanics and the general theory of relativity) has had on modern philosophy and religion.
I have taught physics and chemistry at the college and high school level and math, including calculus, trigonometry and geometry, at the high school level. I have been teaching on and off for 25 years. I am also an ordained Presbyterian minister for over 30 years. I have worked extensively with youth during that time. I have also worked as an editor and journalist for over 17 years, writing and editing for the Philadelphia Inquirer, a daily newspaper in Trenton, NJ, and several weekly publications.
Presently I am taking classes at USM, working toward full certification in high school AP Physics and AP Calculus and Statistics. I have completed about 28 semester hours and should be finished by the end of this semester.
I also work part-time as a pastor in a small church in Standish, ME. I am married, have two grown children and a wonderful wife who works at a local insurance company. My two great loves are reading, rowing and hiking. I rowed on the Harvard Varsity Heavyweight crew and was on the National Collegiate Championship team in 1974. I participated in two US Olympic Team rowing camps and compete annually in the Head of the Charles Regatta.
