Leah credits parenting- she raised nine children in a blended family- as the foundation for her interactions in the classroom with her students. It has provided her with the most experience and defines her philosophy and outlook. Leah also brings her postgraduate training in solution-orientated therapy and experience as a certified family mediator into the classroom. These in combination with her love of learning and her belief that children have multiple strengths that only need to be discovered have allowed her to embrace teaching with vigor and joy.
With a background in special education and having her own learning differences means that she knows first hand the stigma attached to learning in non-traditional ways. Leah has worked mostly with adolescents in the content areas of Social studies, English, Science, Religion, and academic advising. In addition she also taught in elementary school. Leah is a lifelong learner and recently completed her Master’s in Education with a focus on learning throughout life. Leah also enjoys books, gardening, nature, walking her dog, painting watercolors, and her time with family and loved ones.
