While I am just beginning my tutoring career, I have spent the last four years, my college education, in a discussion with fellow students, helping others with my advancements in the fields of Reading
, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and other subdisciplines of English
. Having earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Creative Writing
and completing a minor in Biology, I have plenty of experience with the subject matter I hope to tutor. I have taken many literature and creative writing classes, so communicating important ideas about literature has become second nature. In regard to Biology, I have experience in both lecture and laboratory settings; not only do I understand the content, but I am also knowledgeable about many laboratory practices, and able to advise on laboratory experiments from dissections to gel electrophoresis.
My experience with education has been that what you're learning won't stick until you've found some way to appreciate the subject matter and relate it to yourself. I see tutoring as a way for me to share a love for English and Science, rather than for me to tell a student what to learn. I try not to see teaching as a hierarchy— a student will have his or her own areas of expertise, just as I have mine, and I see the role of a tutor being one of a fellow learner rather than just another teacher. I want learning to be a positive experience, and for my students to feel confident earning good grades and being a dynamic and thoughtful member of a class. Because I am interested in this approach, my ideal students are of middle and high school ages. I look forward to hearing from you!
