My name is Keah and I am a certified elementary teacher in the state of Maryland. I have a bachelor's degree from Towson University, and I am currently pursuing a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel College. I am an elementary school teacher with a passion for reading instruction. Although I enjoy teaching reading the most, I also teach math, science, social studies, and health. I believe that quality instruction engages all learners according to their interest and learning style, while also incorporating technology when possible. I am an advocate of cooperative learning and I strongly believe that education should reflect real life experiences.

Elementary (K-6th)

Upon graduating from Towson University with a degree in Elementary Education, and passing both Praxis I and II for elementary certification, I have met the legal requirements in the state of Maryland. I currently hold a Maryland Educator Certificate and my certification areas are for elementary grades 1-6. I work for the public school system as a classroom teacher, and I have taught in grades 2 and 3. I currently teach reading, math, social studies, science, and health.

Phonics

The ability to decode words will lead to the comprehension of texts, which is the overall goal for reading. Students with a strong sense of phonics skills are likely to achieve success in reading. As a second grade teacher with the public school system, I have worked hard to help students achieve fluency and proficiency in decoding words, identifying the meaning of texts, and comprehending what they've read.

Study Skills

As an elementary classroom teacher, I have experience with helping students prepare for county and state assessments in the areas of math and reading. My goal as a teacher is to help students demonstrate proficiency and understanding in these subject areas, by applying effective skills and strategies learned in class.
