With over 35 years of teaching experience, I have had the pleasure of teaching in adult education programs and teaching on the high school level. I have two teaching fields--Business Education and English. I feel that these two fields are very much related because in teaching the skills related to business, I must also enforce grammar, punctuation and writing skills. Resume writing, public speaking, and cover letter preparation are business tools needed by all students and are closely tied to both of my teaching fields. As an adult education teacher, I trained welfare to work mothers, recovering substance abuse users, and ex-offenders. From 1996 until my retirement in 2011, I taught Business Education at Great Mills High School in St. Mary's County. I have also taught English in adult education programs and on the high school level. This also included teaching students with English as a second language. I presently hold a Maryland teaching certificate for grades 7-12.
As the mother of an ADHD child, I am sensitive to the needs of students with learning disabilities and have worked closely in a classroom setting with mainstream students, developing skills to prepare themselves for full and productive lives. I know the importance of young people learning the basics of the Microsoft Office suite--not just the "fun applications they are all so familiar with.
