Hello, my name is Kamilah and I am 23 years old. I hold a TESOL certificate and am currently an ESL teacher for adults. I am a recent graduate of Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, where I was a Spanish major. I am fluent in Spanish. I even spent six months abroad in Seville, Spain to complete my final semester. While I was still at Hood, I worked as a Spanish tutor, assisting other college students with their mastery of the Spanish language. I would like to continue tutoring students, in Spanish and ESL. I am positive that I will be able to assist you in whatever you are struggling with.

My tutoring style is very straight-to-the-point. I love using flash cards and index cards, especially for younger students. I find this method to be very effective for visual learners. I also like to use pneumonic devices. As far as both Spanish and English are concerned, I feel that holding conversations in the target language with students is the best tutoring method, regardless of the students' level. I also make use of a wide range of tools found on the internet.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I currently hold a TESOL teaching certificate from Oxford Seminars. I am an ESOL teacher at Language ETC in Washington, D.C. I completed the course for my certificate in March 2013 and I have been actively teaching since April.

Spanish

I graduated from Hood College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. While studying, I was hired at a Spanish tutor for the college. I speak, read, write, and listen fluently.
