I am a retired master teacher with over 30 years' experience teaching elementary/middle school subjects--mathematics being my specialty. I have had 4 recent years experience teaching GED classes part-time for Carroll Community College in Westminster. Here my students learned the five core subjects including Reading; Language Arts and Essay Writing; Science; Social Studies, and Mathematics. Many of my students have gone on to earn their Maryland High School Diplomas. I have also tutored quite a few young people to prepare for the military ASVAB test, leading to successful careers with the armed services.

Grammar

I have been teaching English grammar skills for over 20 years, both at the elementary and middle school levels. I currently teach GED classes at Carroll Community College where I review grammar/writing skills with my students as they pursue their high school diplomas.

Prealgebra

As an experienced middle school math teacher and a current GED instructor, I have the skills and knowledge necessary to assure your success with pre-algebra. I am a dynamic, patient tutor who will work with your child until he/she "gets" it. I have excellent references in this subject and will gladly provide them upon request.

GED

I have worked with adults over many years to help them review and master the subjects needed to pass the GED test. I have recently taught GED classes at Carroll Community College, and I am up-to-date regarding the test's requirements.

ASVAB

I am currently tutoring two students who are preparing for their ASVAB test and they are showing remarkable progress. I can also help you to achieve a score that will get you into the military branch of your choice.

Elementary Math

I have taught mathematics to elementary and middle school students for over 20 years. Math is my specialty. Progressing from the basic and concrete, I will show you how and why math "works" and gradually develop an understanding of the more abstract concepts. Presented in the right way, math can be looked at like a game or puzzle, full of sequences and patterns that are easy to recognize and fun to learn.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over 30 years' experience teaching elementary and middle school subjects, especially mathematics, for both Baltimore County and Carroll County Public Schools. My Bachelor's Degree is in Elementary Education and I have a Master's Degree in School Administration and Supervision. I currently teach GED classes as an adjunct instructor for Carroll Community College.

Phonics

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and have taught reading/phonics for about 10 years as a third and fourth grade public school teacher.

Study Skills

I am a retired elementary/middle school teacher with over 30 years' teaching experience. I have been helping students with their study skills for a long time and have proven success in this area.

Swimming

I have been swimming since I have been a child. I have worked at numerous pools during the summer months, both as a life guard and as a swimming instructor. Although not currently certified, I have had both life-guarding credentials and water safety instructor (WSI) credentials for over 30 years. I have access to an indoor and outdoor pool for student instruction. The student will have to come to my location for swimming lessons.

ESL/ESOL

As a retired public school teacher, I have taught grammar, reading, writing and speaking for over 30 years. I can help you in these areas so that you will become more proficient in the English language. Also, I currently teach GED classes and many of my students are not native English speakers, but they have become much more fluent by attending my classes. They have gone on to become successful in reading, writing and speaking the English language.

Chess

I have been playing and teaching chess for over 40 years. Specifically, I ran a chess club for elementary students in an after-school program with Recreation & Parks.

Bodybuilding

I have been exercising and weight training since I have been a teenager. I know the proper techniques to gain the maximum benefit without risking injury to the muscles. I have access to an exercise room with all the necessary equipment to build and maintain a healthy body. The student will have to come to my location to use this equipment.

TEAS

With over 30 years' experience teaching all subjects from elementary school through high school level, I have the knowledge and ability to tutor students who wish to prepare for the Test of Essential Academic Skills. Additionally, I currently teach GED classes at the local community college, and the required subjects here are almost identical to those measured/tested on the TEAS. Whether you need help with all of the sections of the test, or just some, I am available and willing to help you.

Tax Preparation

Although I am not a CPA, I have been completing individual federal and state tax returns for over 40 years. In addition to my own return, I have completed numerous basic tax returns for family members and friends. My accuracy and attention to detail are unsurpassed. I have completed paper returns in the past, but now complete returns using computer software. I will come to your home and complete your tax return for you on your computer or we can do it at my home if you prefer.
