I enjoy explaining complex Math and Finance subjects by starting with very simple examples. This has been very effective and my past students have appreciated this very much. All of my students see a drastic improvement in their grades, especially within the first few weeks of tutoring.

I try to be caring and responsive, and teach my students self-confidence because often they know more than they think they do. I can always be reached by phone or email in between sessions if needed. I am also happy to communicate with teachers/professors if needed. Within 24 hours of each completed session, I will send you a comprehensive review of the material covered during the lesson, how I feel the student is performing, tips on how to overcome specific areas of difficulty, and what my plans are for future lessons.

I offer personalized teaching, adapting my tutoring lessons depending on every student's specific needs and their most preferred and most effective methods of learning.

I encourage feedback, and as part of my satisfaction guarantee, I will not charge for a session if both the student and parent are not 100% satisfied with its outcome.

I have: 500 hours of one-on-one tutoring in Math from Algebra to Advanced Calculus, Accounting and Finance up to graduate level classes; all levels of French. I am also an occasional Substitute Teacher in Math and French for grades 6 through 8.

QUALIFICATIONS

Math is my passion. I am studying to be an Actuary, which requires extensive mathematical skills. For example, Trigonometry, Calculus I, II, and III, Matrix Algebra, Probability, and Statistics are the prerequisites needed to begin studying for actuarial examinations.

Accounting and Finance is the field I work in. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. I have experience working in finance and accounting for both very large and very small companies. For the past 6 years, I have also been working as an independent contractor assisting CEOs and CFOs of medium-sized companies, providing them with finance and accounting services and business consulting solutions.

I am also native French. When I moved to the United States in 1992, I attended the French International School in Bethesda, Maryland throughout high school.

Accounting

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
I have a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting and Information Systems obtained from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

TUTORING EXPERIENCE:
I have over 100 hours of one-on-one tutoring experience in Accounting, from undergrad freshman-level courses, to advanced graduate courses. I have helped one student complete her entire Masters Degree in Accounting, which she earned online through Phoenix University.

TUTORING METHODS:
When difficulties arise while learning a new topic, I usually start by reviewing a simplified version of an previous example/problem consisting of concepts already mastered by the student. From there, I introduce the new topic and its complications by integrating it into same simple example we just reviewed.
This method is highly effective and has worked with all of my students.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
I have over 7 years of experience working in the finance and accounting field. Please refer to my profile for additional information.

MORE ABOUT MYSELF:
I truly enjoy getting my students to understand accounting. Ideally, all my students will eventually grow to love accounting, or at least to appreciate its usefulness as a financial tool.

Actuarial Science

I have passed Society of Actuary/Casualty Actuarial Society Exam P/1 and Exam FM/2 on the first attempt, and I am currently studying for Exam MFE/3F.

I have summarized all of the required material for Exam P/1 in 12 large-font cheat sheets. These include notes on general probability, and univariate and multivariate probability distributions. My sheets have concise notes on De Morgan's Laws, Permutations, Combinations, Chebychev's Theorem, and Moment Generating Functions.

For Exam FM, I learned and mastered Time Value of Money, different types of Annuities, Loans, Bonds, General Cash Flows, Portfolios, Immunization, General Derivatives, Options, Hedging, Investment Strategies, Forwards, Futures, and Swaps.

Algebra 1

Math is my passion. The work I do requires extensive mathematical skills. Please refer to my general profile for more information on my educational background.

My unique and highly effective tutoring methods:

- When difficulties arise while learning a new topic, I usually start by reviewing a simplified version of an previous example/problem consisting of concepts already mastered by the student. From there, I introduce the new topic and its complications by integrating it into same simple example we just reviewed.

This method is highly effective and has worked with all of my students.

- I teach my algebra students an extra technique usually not learned in the American school system:

Instead of solving an algebraic equation by doing the same thing to both sides of the equation, I teach my students the rules on how to move one item in the equation from one side of the equation to the other until they are left with only x on one side.

With this method learned, solving equations becomes a breeze and the student will always know which operation is needed next and will never waste any time performing additional and unnecessary calculations.

ASVAB

EXPERIENCE:

I have only helped one person study and pass this test in the past, and would love to do this again. My one student was very happy with my techniques and the results.

We worked straight out of her book.

I will make sure you truly understand the basic concepts needed for this test so that you have the least amount of material to memorize. I will bring additional notes and exercises for each area where we discover that you, personally, need additional focus/review.

Also, before the end of our first session, we will prepare a schedule of when and how much time you should allocate to different topics in order to be ready for the test at a given date.

Cooking

I have been cooking for myself, my family, and my friends since I can remember.

My family moved from France in 1992, so I have the most experience with traditional French dishes and delicacies. Until I moved away for college, my family and I had "crêpe night" every Sunday, and I was always in charge of the cooking.

I make many dishes at the request of my family and friends, and I receive great compliments on the dishes I decide on myself.

I am usually the one in charge of preparing the entire meal for both Christmas and Thanksgiving, so cooking large quantities is not a problem.

French

INFORMATION FROM MY GENERAL TUTOR PROFILE:
- I am native French. When I moved to the United States in 1992, I attended the French International School in Bethesda, Maryland throughout high school.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- I have experience teaching at all levels.
- I have my own lessons prepared and great textbooks to work with, so you do not need to be enrolled in a class to work with me.
- If you are enrolled in a class/program, I would rather we follow your coursework/syllabus and use your textbooks, notes, and other resources. If needed, I can provide you with additional explanations and practice exercises for specific areas that I notice need improvement.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- My best student started out as a beginner and became fluent in French in less than 2 years without any other outside help other than myself.

- One of my high school French students from one-on-one tutoring progressed so much that his teacher reached out to me to substitute for her. I was the first substitute to teach the class new material, versus reviewing old material or putting on a movie for the class, like most substitute teachers are told to do.

Geometry

I have tutored dozens of high school students in this topic.

Math is my passion. The work I do requires extensive mathematical skills. Please refer to my general profile for more information on my educational background.

Probability

Math is my passion. The work I do requires extensive mathematical skills. Please refer to my general profile for more information on my educational background.

I have passed Actuarial Exam 1/P (P for Probability), so I am truly an expert at this topic. Also, this is one of the funnest math topics to teach and practice, as we can use so many real life examples. It is also a topic that is often used in our regular day-to-day lives.

PSAT

I tutor the math section only and focus on timing and strategies for guessing by eliminating answers that are obviously wrong.

Statistics

Statistics is the subject I have tutored the most (100 hours +). I helped one student complete his entire Master's degree in Statistics from the University of Phoenix.

As an aspiring Actuary having passed the first two exams on my first attempts, I am truly a specialist in this subject.

TOEFL

I do not have any tutoring experience in this subject, so I can teach this at the much lower cost of $40 per hour (versus $60 per hour for the other subjects I teach and tutor).

My only experience is that I have had to pass this test myself.

With my 100% satisfaction guarantee policy, you will not be billed for any session unless you are completely satisfied with the results.

Trigonometry

One of my favorite subjects to teach high school students!

I have at 30+ more hours of one-on-one tutoring in this subject. I have helped students get As, but I have also helped students who were confused by the subject and near failing achieve Bs.

I have a whole set of wonderful cheat sheets prepared for my trigonometry students.

I will help you understand the formulas so that for approximately every 10 formulas your teacher instructs you to memorize, you will only need to memorize one.

You only need to truly understand and grasp the concept of only a few formulas to be able to understand trigonometry.

Also, math is my passion. The work I do requires extensive mathematical skills. Please refer to my general profile for more information on my educational background.
