Are you or your child struggling to understand what is being taught in the classroom? Have no fear for I am here to help make sense of the lessons. I am a Master Tutor with over 2000 hours tutoring students with special needs. Also, for over 20 years, I have worked in classrooms (K through 12) as a lead teacher, resource teacher, dedicated aide, substitute, and after schoolteacher. My expertise is with elementary students that that have learning differences. I have taught individually and in small groups reading, math, writing, spelling, keyboarding, and study skills. I possess extensive background in assisting students that require differentiation and assistive technology to access the curriculum. Also, I am familiar with a broad range of teaching techniques. I have a passion for teaching and I am committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to reach his or her potential.
My approach to tutoring is to first become aware of what the student knows and what he or she needs to learn. This includes, learning the student's preferred learning style and general interests. For the younger children, I include games and fun activities during the sessions and I end with reading a book to them for their enjoyment. With older students and those ready for more challenges, I focus on relating his or her studies with class work or interests the student has to make the lesson more meaningful. I use a lot of positive feedback challenging the student just enough to ensure continual progress while maintaining his or her confidence. I have a patient, caring disposition and am enthusiastic about tutoring you or your child.
