My name is Al Edwards and I'm a former math teacher with a proven record of expertise in several math subjects. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and with departmental honors in Economics, and taught at the high school level. During my tenure as a teacher, I taught hundreds of students, 75% of whom averaged a whole letter grade increase on their end-of-course-tests, and homework grades improved dramatically.

I can't wait to help you or your child become successful in their math class! I am willing to travel and flexible to meet at convenient locations.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Tutoring Policies:

1. When you reserve an appointment time, it is my responsibility to provide you with excellent tutoring in a professional and timely manner. Since tutoring is a service based business, I am paid per session.

2. To maximize the number of students I can help, my maximum lesson time is 90 minutes. In my experience, TWO 90-min sessions a week are much more effective than 3 60-min sessions. 1 hour just isn't enough to get to the heart of an issue, especially in math. However, I am very flexible when it comes to your schedule and will do my best to accommodate the best day and times for you.

3. Cancellation Policy: I ask that if you need to cancel a session, that you notify me at least 24 hours in advance. At that point I will be happy to discuss rescheduling for another time.

Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you and helping you ace your tests!!!

Albert’s subjects

ACT Math

The Math section of the ACT covers Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry; all subjects in which I have taught or currently teach at the high school level. Practice questions and tests as well, timing, and how to look for key words and context clues during when taking the exam are areas of focus of mine when helping a student prepare to take the actually test.

Algebra 1

As a first year mathematics teacher I taught 2 sections of Algebra 1 to freshmen. I am very knowledgeable with the graphical and algebraic representations of all function families as well as probability.

Algebra 2

I am extremely knowledgeable in all Algebra 2 topics (Quadratics, Complex Numbers, Piece-wise, exponential, logarithmic, and absolute value functions, as well as geometric series) as it is my focus subject at the high school where I work.

As an undergraduate Economics student I was required to take Calculus 1 and 2, and had prior experience from my AP Calculus (BC) in high school. In my graduate program I completed Calculus 3 coursework in the Spring of 2012 and am very familiar with topics from each level.

Economics is one of my favorite subjects. I studied Economics all the way from high school and majored in the subject during my undergraduate matriculation. I am well-versed not only in the principles economics, but also micro and macro theory, econometrics, public finance, international and environmental topics, as well as U.S. Economic history and founding Economic doctrines. I would enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion and making you well-versed in the subject!

I teach 10th grade math so I am very knowledgeable in Geometry, Basic to Advanced Algebra and Statistics.

Pre-Algebra provides the foundational knowledge for all subsequent topics of Algebra in which I am very knowledgeable. As high school math teacher I constantly emphasize the need for students to strengthen their skills to future learning.

SAT Math

The math section of the SAT covers arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry with some Trigonometry; all subjects which I have taught or currently teach. I emphasize consistent practice and focus on weak areas and help develop "common sense" approaches to problems. I can also aid in preparation for the SAT subject tests in math.

As high school math teacher one of my focus subjects is trigonometry with my students. I understand how tricky this subject can be, but I've learned the best strategies to break down the concepts and teach them in simpler ways.
