All through my college and high school experience I tutored in math. I've helped high school students prepare for the SATs and geometry exams, and I've helped graduate students survive differential equations. At university I worked as a supplemental calculus teacher, and feel most confident with calculus topics, but certainly can handle anything as long as I get a day to review the material. I love working with different students, and connecting with students in their unique learning styles.
Hmmmm - my favorite teacher?
Probably my thesis adviser or my high school history teacher. My thesis adviser can present any problem in a relatable way. I aspire to this kind of empathy. My high school teacher was the first guy to see me skating through school and challenged me to think and work hard. The kind of guy who would talk to his students about getting B's if he thought they were slacking and should be getting A's...
I want it to say somewhere in my profile that I don't own a car and am happy to meet in the DC metro area right now.
Functions and everything you have ever wanted to know about functions:
Completing the square.
Rational roots theorem.
Solving linear systems.
At Ohio University, I led a study group though two courses Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs) and Partial Differential equations (PDEs).
In ODEs we focused on solving pure-time, autonomous, separable, linear, Bernoulli, homogeneous and exact DEs; drawing phase portraits and using Laplace Transforms to solve ODEs.
In PDEs we focused on solving boundary value problems and the wave equation.
I took several discrete mathematics courses in college. I have a few students who I've helped improve their understanding of sets, relations, functions, algorithms, mathematical induction, finance and difference equations. Usually when meeting discrete math students I bring Discrete Mathematics by Richard Johnsonbaugh. The advanced concepts of discrete math crept their way into my undergraduate thesis in form of complexity of algorithms.
I would consider myself an experienced Matlab user. My work experience includes writing a graphical user interface for research group where we explored the connections between continuous flows and Boolean Networks. Also I acted as team programmer in an international mathematical; modeling competition and received an Honorable mention. Matlab is great software for writing functions, plotting graphs, symbolic integration or just simple arithmetic.

Great tutor, good with an energetic kid — Mason has been teaching math to my 7 year old son for several months and we are very happy with him. My son loves math so we wanted someone who could just spend some time with him exploring the subject. Mason has been able to keep up with his energy - stopping to go for a quick walk around the house or otherwise redirecting his focus and then bringing him back to the subject at hand. Additionall ...
