I am a Ph.D. physicist with a special interest in helping adult learners reach their educational, career, and intellectual goals. I can appreciate students who, like me, must balance their learning with their family and working life. Together, we can develop lesson plans that meet your needs and work within your constraints. If you are looking more towards following your curiosity, I honestly love these subjects and can help you explore your interests. In addition to tutoring, I work as an independent consultant based in Silver Spring, applying many of the topics I teach to real-world problems.
I can cover most physics courses offered to undergraduate majors and non-majors. My math background goes well beyond calculus through a range of topics in applied mathematics I use in my professional work. I can also help in several areas of technical computing. If you need help in any of these areas, just ask! I will give you a straightforward assessment of what I can do for you.
I have a B.A. in Physics and Mathematics from Rice University and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago. While working on my Ph.D., I was a graduate teaching assistant (3 1/2 years) for courses at all levels of the curriculum. During this time, I was also a volunteer literacy tutor (math and reading/writing skills) for adult learners at the Blue Gargoyle Adult Literacy Program.
