"Experienced, reliable and smart tutor!"
Yue from Silver Spring, MD on 11/9/13
I'm a surgeon from China who wanted help with my English in order to provide more thorough and fluent answers in my job interviews for match in USA. Matthew helped me brainstorm, typed out what I said, and gave me an edited version in order to make the process a lot easier.
I felt it was a good experience and would recommend you hire him if you have a similar need!

My first meeting with Matthew was very efficient. He put me on the right track to move ahead for my TOEFL exam. He is also very helpful concerning my homework and is patient and reactive. I highly recommend him as a tutor.

I have TOEFL tutoring sessions with Matthew. And I am pretty sure that it is an absolutely positive experience. Matthew knows answers to all of my questions. Besides, he possesses a natural tutoring talent. He helps me not only during lessons, but frequently shares useful information for TOEFL by e-mail as well. I'm motivated to do well because of him and really appreciate him!
"Your child deserves the very best!"
Ekaterina from Columbia, MD on 9/10/13
We moved to the United States a few months ago and my 7-year-old son did not speak English. On his own he wouldn’t study English, but preferred to play games instead. I spent a lot of time and money looking for a tutor. And then God gave us Matthew! Fancy that! My son looks forward to the lessons every time, he studies, and learns gladly! His language skills have improved significantly. For example, he could not speak English, and now he even tries to read. Matthew definitely has the gift of teaching. The lessons are held in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. However, I’m sure that this is the best way to teach children. So if you’re finding it a challenge to find the best tutor for your child, I can’t recommend Matthew highly enough!

I'm a doctor from Bolivia who has been working with Matthew in my preparation for the USMLE STEP 2CS exam and am pleased so far. He has shown a genuine interest in teaching me English as a whole. He is focused in all I need to develop my knowledge in being a better doctor as well as a person. Each class is helpful for me and I am gaining confidence speaking English in order to solve problems in any situation. He gives me helpful advice for improving the doctor-patient relationship. He is also very patient and gives me all the support that I need to achieve my goals.
I am very happy with Matthew as my tutor in each step of my preparation to successfully pass the USMLE STEP 2 CS.
"My First English Friend"
Jae from Potomac, MD on 9/6/13
I requested lessons from Matthew that would focus on practicing English conversation. We talked about a lot of things, such as the news, movies, culture, food, sports, travel, and various experiences. All of my conversations with him helped acclimate myself with my new environment in America. Now that we know a lot about each other, I feel like he is my best friend. He has extensive experience in foreign cultures and teaching foreigners. It helped me. If you are not fluent in English, having lessons with him is the best way to improve your English.

That one word does indeed capture the essence of our experience with WyzAnt tutor Matthew L. A skilled professional with an impressive resume', Matthew "did" teach our Portuguese speaking (Brazil) Grandson basic English in short-order(13 one-hour sessions). Accordingly, we would highly recommend Matthew L. to/for anyone who needs to speak/read/write English in a fast-track mode.
"Great TOEFL tutor!"
Toshiko from Rockville, MD on 2/4/13
I took his TOEFL lesson and it was a great experience to learn from him. Before his lesson, I didn't know how to tackle TOEFL study. He taught me how to study, how to score up with many logics and techniques. Especially he taught me how to write TOEFL essay with these logics using some templates. I did homework before every lesson, 3 essays, 3 speaking, 1 listening, and 1 reading, which made my skill much better than before. He also pointed my weak point, grammar. Then we started studying grammar, which made me writing essay easier than before. I appreciate him teaching me all these things and trust that I can get much better score on TOEFL.
"Great tutor and friend"
Dong-woo from Rockville, MD on 11/15/12
I was in special need for English conversation opportunities and came upon with this site and Matthew. It was my first time for looking for English tutor in the States, I was very concerned about the chance to meet a right tutor for me. Unavoidably I decided to meet and have some lessons with several tutors and now he is the one I've made up my mind as my tutor. Matthew and I have met for lunch and a lesson for a while now. He has abundant experiences in this area and, above all, such great sincerity and patience so I feel very comfortable with him. Also, it's been so helpful to practice English conversation with him, both for small talk and discussing articles in some newspapers.
"Flexible & Patient!"
Angela from College Park, MD on 10/1/12
I arranged tutoring with Matthew for a client of mine living in Washington D.C. and working in College Park. My client is from Japan and needed ESL tutoring. Though Matthew has a busy schedule, he was willing to accommodate my client's unique schedule. She has very much enjoyed working with Matthew and has told me that he is very patient as she continues to build her English skills.

He tried to know my English level, background, interests and hobbies. And he adjusted the teaching way to fit me better. I hope it would work, and I also try to follow his instruction.
