I am a certified former 8th grade math teacher with two years of lead teaching experience and over six years of tutoring experience with grades 5th through 12th. I scored a perfect 800 on the quantitative section of the GRE and can prepare students for standardized college entrance exams. Currently, I am working on co-authoring an SAT preparation book targeted at students trying to get an 800 on the quantitative section. My bachelor's degree is in mathematics, and I have a master's degree from American University in Secondary Mathematics Education.
My tutoring philosophy centers around teaching explanation and reasoning so that students understand why a process/method works. I have worked with many types of learners, including those with disabilities, and will match my tutoring style to the learning style of the student. Whenever possible, I utilize hands-on materials, manipulatives, and real-life settings in order to maximize conceptual understanding.
I am willing to negotiate my rate depending on how close you are to my home or workplace, the subject you require tutoring in, and how frequently you request tutoring.
