Explore tutoring with a knowledgeable, caring tutor who has successfully worked with students in all areas of language and humanities study, including writing, reading, speech communication, social studies, social sciences, and history. I also provide specific, individualized tutoring for test preparation, whether you are planning to take the SAT; the language and quantitative sections of the ISEE & SSAT; the AP English Literature and AP English language exams; AP Spanish; AP History; GRE; Praxis, and ACT.
Whether you are in middle school or graduate school, or a professional seeking improvement in skills at your job, such as writing or public speaking or accent reduction, you can be sure that I will listen to your goals and needs, and develop a specific plan that is based on on your goals and your learning style.
My educational background includes a Ph.D. from New York University in Education and an M.A. from Columbia University. I have also worked as a test developer for a major test publisher, so I know the way standardized tests are structured and graded.
For 20 years I've helped others that may be struggling in meeting their educational goals. Besides teaching and tutoring, I've done research in learning, and focus individually on each student to find ways of improving his or her academic skills. I've also written teacher guides for McGraw-Hill & Prentice-Hall including a book on the ISEE and SSAT. (If you want to read any, just ask!)
Another aspect of my tutoring is helping students with their Masters' theses or Doctoral Dissertations. In the past two years, I've helped grad students with projects in language, theology, psychology, and Latin American Studies.
With a certificate in counseling psychology, and experience with both young people and adults, I can help develop learning strategies for students that don't fit neatly into a typical student profile, for example, those with ADHD or dyslexia.

I know that "life happens," students get sick or may have last-minute obligations, and that sometimes appointments have to be changed or cancelled. I'll do my best to accommodate these situations.
