Explore tutoring with a knowledgeable, caring tutor who is able to think outside the box.
I have taught and tutored a range of students, from middle and high school students to undergraduate and graduate students to research neurologists and psychologists. I also work with native and foreign working professionals to improve their English language writing and speech skills.
I am an experienced English, Spanish, Writing, Reading and Speech teacher with a Ph.D. from NYU and an M.A. from Columbia University. I studied Spanish in Mexico, and received a Certificado de Estudios Avanzados (Certificate in Advanced Spanish Studies) from the Fairfax Board of Education.
I am also an expert at "accent reduction," having studied voice articulation for two years with the vocal coach at the Julliard School of Music.
With over 20 years of experience, I like help others that may be struggling in meeting their educational goals. Besides teaching and tutoring, I've done research in learning, and focus individually on each student to find ways of improving his or her skills. In addition, I've also written teacher guides for McGraw-Hill & Prentice-Hall, and journal articles on education and culture (if you want to read any, just ask!)
I've recently completed editing assignments on two books: one a guide for the ISEE and SSAT, and another guide fo finding financial aid for schooling
I also enjoy tutoring students to help prepare them prepare for the verbal and quantitative sections of the SAT, GRE, GMAT, ACT, TOEFL, MAT, ISEE, and SSAT, AP English Literature, AP English Language, and AP Spanish. I know how these tests "work" because I am a former test developer, and know what strategies to use to prepare for them.
Another aspect of my tutoring is in the area of helping grad students with their Master's theses or Doctoral Dissertations. Here's some of the topics I've helped people with: theology, Latin American studies, Psychology,
With a certificate in counseling psychology, and experience with both young people and adults, I can help develop learning strategies for students that don't fit neatly into a typical student profile, for example, those with ADHD or dyslexia.
