My name is Madame Carmen and I am a native French speaker who has been living in the US for the past 24 years. I am a professional translator (English and Spanish into French) and have two children. I hold both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the "Universite de la Sorbonne" in Paris, France and try to go back to France every year with my children who've been raised in a bilingual home and are now trilingual.
Realizing that being bilingual is no longer a luxury but a necessity, I decided to teach French six years ago to all ages in multiple schools and at home in the DC area. The study of a second language improves overall academic performance and encourages superior problem-solving skills. And because of today's demand of international interactions and traveling, I strongly believe that it is crucial to become at least bilingual if not trilingual to be successful in this 21st century global village of ours.
My aim is to instill in my students proficiency and fluency in the French language to communicate efficiently through a fun and effective method that consists of a communicative approach to language learning, total physical response, the think, pair and share method and lots of patience.
I can't wait to work with new students in the Silver Spring area and vicinity. However, because my students come and go from my home, I do not travel to my students unless they live in my neighborhood.
