To all of you interested in seeking knowledge or wanting to improve your skills,
WELCOME! My name is Bernadette. I have a B.A. degree in English and a minor in History from Virginia commonwealth University (VCU) located in Richmond, VA. I have
tutored students in their writing lab, including masters and graduate students. It is very gratifying for me to teach the basics of a well written paper. Not only that, but it is something that will serve you well throughout your entire educational career.Of course there are many other aspects to the subject of English, but that is the one that students agonize over the most. As for History and Literature, they often go hand in hand for seeing the whole picture about a particular era, time or person. Both subjects can and are also taught separately. I have an easygoing personality sprinkled with humor and am very good at translating difficult concepts into easy to grasp metaphors and terminology.
I have substituted in Richmond schools in all grades, but mostly middle and high school. Some of those jobs often included special education students and those who have more difficulty with learning, for whatever reasons. Many times it is particularly helpful to have a one on one tutor because you receive undivided attention. I am quite vigilant in making sure you comprehend what we are doing before moving to the next step.
But since I consider us a team, you will be held accountable for upholding your half of the responsibilities. Remember, you are the one seeking help. However, I always learn from
my students,as each individual is unique and has much to add to the overall enrichment of the experience...whether you believe you do or not. On the flip side of my skills is a passion for playing sports; especially basketball, softball and volleyball. I admit I haven't played much lately. I need to get some networking going since I've been up here.
I love to travel, enjoy politics, Have twice started a newsletter, coached and mentored sports teams for youth and adult recreational leagues. I have always been a strong advocate for youth and their well-being. I look forward to working with you soon.Let's get
