I have over 22 years of experience teaching both general and organic chemistry as a chemistry professor and over thirty years of experience tutoring high school students in biology, chemistry, math, and physics. I was so excited about being a science teacher that, when I was an undergraduate at M.I.T., I created a Saturday science enrichment program for Boston-area high school students.

Right now, I am doing both in-person and online tutoring in biology, chemistry, math from pre-algebra to pre-calculus, and physics, including preparation for the ACT Math and Science sections, SAT II Chemistry, Math, and Physics Exams, and AP Chemistry exam. I have accumulated hundreds of practice problems and even have my own online organic chemistry textbook.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have been tutoring high school students in math for over thirty years. My areas of expertise include algebra, geometry, precalculus, and trigonometry. Also, I have tutored students using ACT Math topic questions and practice exams.

ACT Science

I have been tutoring high school students in the physical sciences for over thirty years. My areas of expertise include experimental design, data analysis, chemistry and physics, with 16 refereed publications in science journals. Also, I have tutored students using ACT Science topic questions and practice exams.

Chemistry

I have been tutoring high school students in chemistry for over thirty years, ever since I was an undergraduate at M.I.T. I have a B.S. in chemistry from M.I.T. and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Northeastern University. I also have been a chemistry professor for 22 years. I love chemistry and like to impart my enthusiasm for the subject on those I tutor.

MCAT

During my 22 years as a chemistry professor, I tutored students preparing for MCAT subject areas of general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics, using online resources, including MCAT-targeted review material, practice problems, and timed practice tests, I even have MCAT timed practice tests in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics available to my tutees, which they can take as often as they wish.

Organic Chemistry

I have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Northeastern University and 22 years of experience teaching Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 at various universities. I was Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Salisbury University (2000-2012), Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Albright College (1993-1997), and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Oberlin College (1990-1993).

Pharmacology

I have been teaching principles of pharmacology for seven years at Salisbury University in Chemistry 412, which I taught as Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology. I also have published peer-reviewed research articles in anticancer, anti-MRSA, anti-VRE, antitubercular, and antiviral research.

Physics

I have been tutoring high school students in physics for over thirty years. I have also tutored students preparing for the SAT Physics Exam, using practice exams and topic exercises. I have been on both sides of the fence, a scared student of physics and later a physics tutor. I took physics in both high school and at M.I.T., wondering what the heck was going on but still doing well enough by memorizing problem-solving algorithms. Then I re-taught myself physics so that I could teach it to others better than I was taught.

Assuming constant water density, pressure increases by 1 atm (  about 100.9 kPa ) with each 10 m of depth below the surface. So at 10 m, the pressure is 2 atm (1 atm of air + 1 atm of water) or 201.8 kPa.  At 18 atm, the pressure is 282.3 kPa. Now for Boyle's law, you now have...

I wish I had started organic chemistry with Miguel from the beginning — Miguel has been tutoring me in organic chemistry since mid-semester and I cannot say enough good things. I am really weak in organic chemistry to the point that I'm usually too embarrassed to even seek help from peer tutors and way too nervous to go to my professor. Miguel has been/is so patient the entire time. No matter how many questions about various mechanisms I have and regardless how incomp ...
