My native language is Russian and I have a near-native proficiency in English. I have academic training (MA, PhD) in cognitive second language acquisition and pedagogy and have worked in the field of foreign/second language instruction for over 15 years. When living in Russia, I taught English as a foreign language to school children and adults at all proficiency levels. In the US, where I have lived for over 15 years, I taught Russian in a large public university in the Washington D.C. area. For my work I received a Distinguished Teacher of the Year award from the Center of Teaching Excellence. I also have served as a content-area expert for the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State. I currently teach English for Academic Purposes to international graduate students in another university in the area.
