Hello everyone, my name is Manuel and I am working on my PhD in Economics at American University. I have finished my coursework so I have some time for tutoring economics at the intro, intermediate, and advanced levels. Additionally, I am available to tutor econometrics/statistics.
I am teaching Micro Principles this spring but have had substantial teaching and coaching experience from my undergraduate/graduate education. Even though I have been an economics major, my undergraduate experience was spent in the education department where I acquired vital skills for conveying concepts visually, logically, and mathematically. Additionally, I learned innovative strategies for teaching beyond the standard chalk and talk approach prevalent in most courses. Finally, my entire graduate experience has been interdisciplinary so I have gained familiarity with business, psychology, history, and gender studies and use that background to bring context to economic problems.
What this means for you is that I am able to break things down in a clear and practical way so that you not only get the answer, but realize the importance of the question, why the answer is what it is, and its relevance in everyday life. I am genuinely interested in helping people learn and build their skill sets, and I too learn from my students and use that experience to be a more effective educator. I look forward to helping you understand the economic way of thinking, realize its limitations and strengths, and in the end know how to apply it. I am confident that your difficulties will be resolved and will work hard to help you reach your goals.
Since there are many of you and only one of me, it will be most efficient if I handle tutoring either online or (more preferably) in person at a neutral location in Rockville, MD (like a Starbucks).
