I have been working in the aero space industry for 35 years at Orbital Sciences Corporation at Germantown, MD as a scientist. I have just retired from the company, where I had the responsibility for all safety studies relating to the payload for various missions. This involved detailed structural calculations in order to simulate the response of the payload to a multitude of credible accident scenarios proposed by NASA.
Now that I have retired from the company, I would like to use my expertise to foster interest in math at junior and high school level. During my tenure at Orbital Sciences Corporation, I have been doing one-on-one tutoring for students form Montgomery County Public Schools occasionally. I would like to continue this on a regular basis. My method has been to meet the student in a local library once a week. I would request the student to bring in her/his textbooks and any work assignments the student had completed or had problems completing. I would then go over the problems in detail and help the student to understand the math in the homework arena and future testing.
