I help my clients work to their strengths and work around their challenges. Whether the challenges stem from ADD/ADHD, executive function issues, or from issues that are similar to them, my client centered approach has proven successful.
I have worked with adults, college students, high school students, and elementary school students who are challenged by symptoms of ADHD. I have had a few clients who do not have ADD/ADHD but are challenged by some of the same things as people who do. These include making plans, following through, completing long-term projects in a timely manner, keeping track of daily work, tracking deadlines, dealing with hyperfocus, communicating with teachers or supervisors, having necessary materials for your work, making sure work gets turned in, prioritizing, getting unstuck when overwhelmed.
For instance, one 10 year old client sat hopelessly staring at her assignment for an hour. She could not figure out how to start it, even though it was a simple assignment to decorate a paper t-shirt to represented her learner profile. It was a case of not being able to see the forest for the trees. We worked together to get her started on the assignment and then she became hyper-focused on cramming a book's worth of information on her "shirt." Then we worked together to focus her efforts to get the project completed.
Another client was a high school student who's trimester-end paper was months overdue. We broke the assignment into pieces and came up with small daily tasks to be completed and set up an accountability system for completing them. The student also faced processing issues that made fitting very advanced ideas on the subject matter into the guidelines of the assignment very difficult. Ultimately the parents, teachers, and I formed a team to communicate and support.
I welcome an opportunity to help you, your student or your child find their path from overwhelm to achievement. My schedule is currently full in the afternoon, evening and weekend time slots. I do have some availability during school hours.
