ACT English

As a news journalist, editor and writer, I'm well prepared to offer students assistance with grammar, spelling, vocabulary, essay writing and public speaking.

This background serves me well in tutoring students of all ages and backgrounds. Please feel free to get in touch at no obligation to discuss how I can help you reach your goals!

Elementary (K-6th)

I've taught elementary school students (K-6th) in English, reading and writing, grammar and vocabulary, math and science, for 15+ years. I like to use a variety of tools, depending on what works best for the child. For example, some children retain knowledge best using flash cards while others excel working with web-based materials. I'm flexible and open to whatever a child feels is most comfortable for him/her. And perhaps most important, I'm patient and responsive to each student's needs. As mentioned in my profile, my career as a news editor and writer provides me with a solid foundation for tutoring students of all ages and backgrounds.
Looking forward to tutoring your student!

English

As a news journalist, editor and writer, I'm well prepared to offer students assistance with grammar, spelling, essay and speech writing, and public speaking.

This background serves me well in tutoring students of all ages and backgrounds. Please feel free to get in touch at no obligation to discuss how I can help you reach your goals!

Grammar

My profession as a news editor and writer has required me to have an excellent grasp of English grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and phrasing.

In addition, I've tutored students of all ages in English for over 15 years.

Marketing

My marketing instruction is based on my 10+ years of experience as a marketing executive at start-ups in Silicon Valley, and my many years of experience as an award-winning marketing journalist at The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, and elsewhere.
My students learn how to develop a marketing plan for a product or service, how to perform market research, and how to integrate their findings into their ongoing product creation or revision. Also, we look at how to market to different types of audiences, business, consumers, analysts and the media.

Microsoft Word

I teach my students how to embrace the use of Microsoft Word so that it becomes an invaluable writing and document creation tool for them. We review the basics of the program and practice using Word to create a variety of documents.
Everyone has different needs and challenges when they start using a word processing program. I'm very good a meeting each student's specific requirements!

Proofreading

Proofreading requires knowledge of grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, sentence structure, and the ability to carefully read written material. I help students, both adults and children, to develop these skills.

Public Speaking

I have taught everyone from Fortune 500 company CEOs to university academics and working scientists, and students, to speak in front of an audience with confidence and without fear. I teach them how to develop their messages for their audience, outline the ideas and refine them, then practice, practice, practice!
Also, I teach students how they should dress depending on the occasion, where to look during their presentation, how to interact with the audience during Q&A, and how to "show and tell" new products, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
If you have more questions to certify me, please let me know! Thank you.

Reading

I'm an experienced reading tutor for primary, middle and high school students, who need a patient and understanding coach willing to help them with the specific problems holding them back in their reading skills. My approach to each student is customized to address their specific needs.

I draw on my experience as an editor, reporter and news product developer, at news organizations including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Bloomberg News, U.S. News & World Report, and Internet news sites.

I look forward to speaking with you about your student's specific reading roadblocks and exploring how I can help him/her breakthrough them!

SAT Reading

I frequently prepare high school students for the SAT reading and writing exams. I share with students proven techniques and cues to help students understand how to read each passage and then answer the questions accurately and quickly. Second, I focus on improving student vocabulary, which is critical to obtaining high scores on both the reading and writing portions of the SAT.

SAT Writing

My background as a news journalist, editor and writer, serves as a strong foundation for my preparation of junior high and high school students preparing for SAT and ACT exams who need a little extra help with grammar, spelling, punctuation, reading comprehension and essay writing.

In fact, this background serves me well in tutoring students of all ages and backgrounds, who may need help with their homework as well as test preparation. Please feel free to get in touch at no obligation to discuss how I can help you reach your goals!

Speech

I have taught everyone from Fortune 500 company CEOs to university academics and working scientists, and students, how to write a speech and how to present in front of an audience with confidence and without fear.

If you have more questions please let me know. Thank you.

Vocabulary

My career as a news journalist and business writer serves as a strong foundation for tutoring vocabulary, spelling and writing. Also, I have tutored students from elementary to high school in vocabulary, spelling and writing. I believe flash cards are the best way to broaden a student's vocabulary and his/her ability to spell. Flash cards also provide an easy way for students to study on their own.

Writing

I'm an experienced writing coach for elementary school, high school, college and graduate students, as well as for professional writers, who need a sounding board, assistance organizing their thoughts, outlining school assignments or stories, and then getting the writing done!

I help improve a student's approach to their projects, develop their grasp of sentence structure, enhance their vocabulary, and clean-up their grammar!

I draw on my experience as an editor, coach, reporter and news product developer, at The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Bloomberg News, U.S. News & World Report, health and business magazines, plus Internet-based news sites.

Also, I assist broadcast journalism students and broadcast writers. I draw on my experience as an on-air correspondent for Nightly Business Report, as co-developer of the Bloomberg television news studio, and as regular guest on various cable news programs.
