I have years of experience tutoring a wide variety of populations. At the moment, I am tutoring adults in English as a Second Language. I currently have 4 students from 3 different countries. They include a beginner who is working on very basic sentence structure and vocabulary, an intermediate student who is learning to understand her children's homework and study for her citizenship exam, and two advanced students who meet with me for pronunciation and conversation practice.
I also have spent many years working with special-needs students. I recently worked for two years with college students with Aspergers syndrome and other forms of autism. I helped them not only with academic subjects, but with organization, time-management, and social issues. I have also done ABA therapy with students at different points on the autism spectrum, breaking down everyday tasks ranging from money-handling to computer skills to using transportation into manageable steps to practice. I am patient and creative in finding a way to reach stubborn or anxious students.
I prefer to work weekdays -- I am available from 8:30 am to about 3:00 pm Mon- Fri. This generally means that I am a better schedule fit for college students and other adult learners. I have also occasionally worked with children in homeschooling programs. I am happy to have a short initial meeting, free of charge, to assess the student's level of knowledge and see if we are a good personality match.
For students who only want conversation practice -- learning new vocabulary, improving pronunciation, and increasing fluency, and who do not need prepared lessons or significant materials, I will meet for conversation group for a reduced rate.
