To students and parents:

From my experiences, I've learned how to communicate confusing and difficult mathematical concepts in multiple ways that can be understood by anyone. If something doesn't make sense to you, I can explain it in several different ways such that one of those ways does click.

I've been tutoring since I was in high school, learning effective methods of teaching and tutoring all along the way. I've tutored 2nd - 6th graders, freshmen - seniors in high school, university undergraduates, and even graduate students who needed help brushing up on advanced level mathematics or statistics.

In completing my degree in Pure Mathematics, and also a Master's in Statistics, I have learned the Theory of Mathematics as well as applications of Mathematics, and have even written papers in Number Theory, Computational Statistics, and Statistical Sampling. As such, I know the intricacies of concepts as simple on the surface as pre-algebra or as complicated as algebraic number theory, and have a complex understanding of these concepts that describes phenomenon in more than just one way.

In general, to find a good math tutor people tend to look for subject matter expertise and teaching experience. However, just because someone has taken a lot of math classes or has taught a classroom of students doesn't mean he/she is going to be a good tutor for you.

A good tutor has complete mastery of mathematics, and has experience tutoring multiple levels of math to multiple age groups. From my education and my years of experience, I have this knowledge and ability to help you out with what you need to learn.

Also, I believe Mathematics should be thought of as a language, just like Russian or French. If you don't know Russian and I start talking to you in Russian, you're not going to have any idea what I'm saying. The same goes for Math: If you don't learn the language of Mathematics, you'll never understand anything your teachers say.

I know the language of Math, and I can teach it to you just like I have done for several students before.

Please feel free to contact me to talk some more about a particular problem you have or help you need. I look forward to helping you become truly better at Mathematics.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Actuarial Science

I took Exam 1/P as an undergrad and passed. Furthermore, I work as a statistician and have a Masters in Statistics. My specialty will be helping students needing to study, understand, and pass the material on Exam 1/P.

Calculus

I have several years of tutoring experience in Calculus. I tutoring AB Calc and BC Calc while still in high school, taught Calc I, II, and III while in college. Since then I have continued tutoring several students, most high schoolers, in calculus in preparation for their AP Exams. As a former student who passed the AP test (I got a 5) and a former Teaching Assistant in College for Calculus, I understand the theories, the applications, the knowledge required to pass, and the types of questions asked on the exam. I can confidently say that I will be able to help any student master Calculus.

Discrete Math

From acquiring my Bachelor's in Pure Mathematics and my Master's in Statistics, I am thoroughly familiar with many subfields of discrete mathematics, including combinatorics, algebraic and analytic number theory, discrete probability theory, to name a few. I also have many experiences tutoring high-school and college level 'discrete mathematics' to many students.

SAS

I have taken and passed SAS Programming I, II, and III; SQL; and Macro I and II, all with the SAS institute. Furthermore, I use SAS frequently both at work for research and for my own personal use.

I have also conducted trainings for SAS general programming (focusing on data steps and data manipulation), SAS reporting (focusing on generating and interpreting output from Proc Freq, Proc Means, Proc Print, Proc Summary, Proc Tabulate, and Proc Report), SAS RDBM Tools (Proc SQL and SAS Macros), and general data analysis and modeling with SAS (Proc Reg, Proc Logistic, Proc Probit, Proc GLM, Proc Genmod, Proc Anova, etc.).

Violin

I began studying violin at age 5 and continued training until I went to college. During that time I was a member of two orchestras, one of which I was concert master for two years. I am familiar with the Suzuki method, and have taught students both in the Suzuki method and outside of the Suzuki method.

Great! — Vimal worked with my son on AP Statistics and in just a short time helped him understand many concepts that previously had been incomprehensible, even after months of classroom instruction. Vimal quickly established a very good rapport with my son. He has an impressive understanding of the subject and the ability to explain things in several different ways, making it all more accessible to the s ...
