One of my main goals as an educator is to make difficult material clear and memorable to the student. I have always believed that all academic subject matters were interesting at their core and that an educator's role is first and foremost to reveal the core of a subject matter so the student has the motivation to meet the challenges presented by the material. I have had the privilege of teaching a large number of different subjects at local community colleges and universities, including Towson, Morgan, and Johns Hopkins Universities,and Essex and Catonsville Community colleges. I believe that my enthusiasm for learning will be communicated to my pupils as a result of the tutoring they will receive from me. I have a Ph.D. and over 330 college credit hours to my name in diverse subjects.

Algebra 1

Not only have I taken a number of courses in algebra at the college level, but in my employment, I have had numerous opportunities to keep my knowledge and proficiency in algebra alive. I am proficient and experienced in solving for variables in linear and quadratic equations, problem-solving techniques (including setting up equations when searching for unknowns), order of operations, elementary operations properties (e.g., associative and distributive properties), and much more.

Algebra 2

My expertise in Algebra II is not due merely to college credits earned, but is also a consequence of my being a physicist (MS), and my regular hands-on application of algebraic principles in connection with my employment.

Physics

I have my Master of Science in Applied Physics. I have specialized in thermodyamics and mechanics and have years of teaching physics at the college level under my belt. My emphasis in physics is on problem solving. I have taught elementary physics labs along with the corresponding physics courses. Among the basic physics courses I have taught are those requiring calculus, i.e., those for science and physics majors.

Writing

My interest in writing goes back to a very early age. I have written fiction stories, scientific papers, and have been employed as both a writer and a proof-reader for years. In addition, I have taught expository writing at Towson University (Maryland) a number of times. I am very exacting in my use of words and in grammar, and I believe this benefits my pupils to an unusual extent.

English

In addition to being a physicist and a biomedical researcher, I provided various editing functions to individuals and companies in improving manuscripts that included research papers, grant proposals, and other types of works. I can add that I taught expository writing for several semesters at Towson University in Baltimore, MD. I received a score of 780 (better than 99 percentile) in the Verbal section of the GRE (Graduate Record Exam).

Biochemistry

I taught biomolecules in summer sessions at Johns Hopkins University and my interests in biochemistry extend to molecular biology and physiology, as I have published in these areas. I consider my understanding and knowledge of biochemistry quite extensive. I am particularly good at analyzing biochemical structures and in the areas of biochemical pathways and enzyme kinetics.

Economics

Subjects for which I have earned college credit include: general economics, money and banking, management, marketing, accounting, comparative economic systems, statistics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and budiness law. I still remain active in economics and am writing a book on macroeconomics.

Botany

I have had many years of experience both in the lab and academically in botany. In addition, botany was a hobby of mine, and I specialized in algae and plant physiology. I have done credited course work in botany.

Organic Chemistry

As a biophysicist and molecular biologist, I am well versed in organic chemistry. I have university credit for organic chemistry and biochemistry. In addition, I did two post-docs in pharmacology, again a related subject. Chemistry as a whole is one of my strong areas.
