I am truly passionate about student learning and work to keep students engaged as they learn. My goal is not only to improve students' skills in their specific subject of need, but to give them skill-sets that they can use for many years. I love tutoring students in readings skills development, elementary school math, and the special needs population.

I've taught as a Lead Special Educator and am currently employed by Kennedy Krieger Institute in self-contained classroom environment. In addition, I have been a private tutor and a tutor for Literacy Volunteers Of America.

Every student learns differently and deserves a chance to be successful. It would be my pleasure to take your child to the next level!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have been a Lead Special Educator for second grade students. I have co-taught 5th and 6th grade students in an inclusive/self-contained classroom environment. I am currently in a support position in a 4th/5th grade inclusive/self-contained environment. I have experience working with students who are ADD, ADHD, Bipolar and Autistic. I've taken relevant coursework to support students with varying needs.

My approach is sensitive, motivating, and structured. My goal is to have my students reach their full potential.

Elementary (K-6th)

My experience includes, being a Kaplan tutor for elementary level students, grades k-6th. The areas covered were: reading, math, and writing. I have been a long-term substitute teacher at the elementary school level, leading instruction in: math, reading, writing, and reading comprehension. Currently, I am employed by Kennedy Krieger Institute and assist in teaching math, reading, social studies, and writing skills to elementary level students.

Elementary Math

My experience includes elementary level math tutoring for Kaplan, private math tutoring for a 6th grade student in 2011. I've co-taught math the past three years to grades 2 and 4-6. I enjoy helping students find new approaches in acquiring math skills.

Grammar

As a college student, I was an English major and studied advanced "English Grammar." I've been a writing tutor for Kaplan Inc. and have taught writing to elementary level students.

Literature

I studied English Literature in college and earned my degree in English/Journalism. I have been an avid reader all my life and enjoy helping students to discover what enjoyment they can derive from literature. I present contemporary ways that the students can enjoy novels and poetry, thus increasing understanding and comprehension.

Phonics

On a daily basis I teach phonics (Wilson Program) on the elementary school level. Phonics allows students to develop oral fluency and become better word decoders and increases some reading skills. Phonics is the foundation of word and sound correlation. I enjoy teaching phonics to students and watching them develop their core skills.

Reading

Over the past three years I have worked with elementary and middle school students to help improve their reading skills. I carefully assess each student, as every student learns differently. It is important to understand what motivates them and develop a plan based on how they learn. As your child's tutor my goal is to implement a very specific plan to help your child reach her or his full potential.

Spelling

I teach basic phonic skills to my students, which helps them with their spelling. I also teach them how to use resources such as spell check and online resources.

Vocabulary

As an avid reader and English major, I have an extensive vocabulary. Increasing one's vocabulary, in my opinion, is a life long endeavor; there is always a new word to discover. I can help students gain the appropriate skills in word usage, pronunciation, and of course word meaning.

Writing

I have taken several core writing classes at the college level and have been a writing tutor for Kaplan Inc. I enjoy writing in my spare time. On a daily basis, I teach students writing skills on the elementary school level.
