Greetings!

I am excited to join WyzAnt to assist students in improving their skills and overall knowledge. I have always had a passion for learning and education. As a certified social studies teacher and current doctoral student seeking to earn a PhD in education administrative and policy studies, I am personally and professionally committed to improving the quality of education and workforce development provided to all students in the Southern Maryland/Greater Washington D.C. region. In addition to providing content knowledge tutoring in the social sciences, I can provide a wide range of written and verbal communication tutoring services from my professional experiences in public affairs, program administration, curriculum development, journal editing, and non-profit development.

I moved to Southern Maryland in August 2011 to be with my husband who is a local teacher. Like many, we are not native to this region. We are both from Ohio and went to college in Pennsylvania. We enjoy the water and the mild winters in Southern Maryland. I also have a younger sibling who is a senior in high school. As a result, I am familiar with the current state of education and workforce development for middle and high school students. I am experienced in working with students from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and am suitably versed in the most effective teaching techniques.

If I am your tutor, I promise to provide individualized attention, utilize creative, constructive, and student-centered instruction tailored to your strengths, and will work with your parents and teachers. I firmly believe that students are best served and supported when all invested parties (parents, teachers, coaches) are "on the same page."

My schedule is flexible to accommodate your schedule. I am also willing to negotiate my hourly rate. I can also aprovide documentation of my last background check from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

If you would like me to be your tutor, please contact me and we can start on the path to success!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

I have a B.A. in history, with a concentration in education. I am a certified social studies teacher (secondary) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Additionally, I have an M.E.d. in instruction and learning (social studies) and currently work for a non-profit organization focused on monitoring current issues in the Middle East North Africa region.

Study Skills

I am a certified social studies teacher (secondary level) and earned my MEd in instruction and learning. I am currently pursing my PhD in education policy. For three years, I worked for an educational program that served 100 students each year. I worked directly with the students for some of the instructional material. I also educated the staff on the best practices of instruction, particularly student-centered instruction. As a result, I have a thorough understanding of different instructional methods and learning needs.
