The Spanish language is and has been one of my passions for a very long time. I have been studying the language for over 12 years and will continue to strengthen my skills through teaching and traveling. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish studies and a Master of Arts in Cross-Cultural Communication that concentrated on the Spanish language. Throughout my graduate studies I taught Spanish to undergraduate, beginning and advanced level, students. This is my 3rd year as an Adjunct Professor at my alma mater. In addition, I was lucky enough to receive a completely immersed education by studying abroad in Lima, Peru and Seville, Spain. I consider these educational experiences the most valuable and the reason I am as fluent in Spanish as I am today.
Regarding tutoring methods, I can utilize a range of methods and adapt to the needs of each student effectively. I have tutored students from the age of 5 to the age of 45. I have integrated various media to aid in teaching/tutoring, such as the use of technology, to help the student in improving their foreign language learning and application skills with more efficacy. I have tools that I implement for strengthening each of the four main skills: reading, speaking, listening and writing. In addition, if desired, I throw in culture to supplement and strengthen the level of engagement the activities can provide. Here are some examples of methods I have used in the past. Regarding grasping vocabulary, I can help the student associate the words with concepts, ideas or images that will aid the student in remembering the word(s). Another example centers on grammar and tense constructions. I practice drills with the students so that they are required, repetitively, to conjugate verbs at a gradually increasing pace. My methods overall are communicative, in that they require the student to improve upon his or her ability to learn implicitly. Essentially, the student is not being given the information and then applying it. The student is giving him or herself the information and then applying it.
