In my 17 years of classroom experience, I have worked with hundreds of children with ADD/ADHD. Some methods that I have found to be effective are chunking of the content and the amount of time spent on that content, repetition of directions, a tutoring environment free of distractions, and self monitoring strategies by the student, and patience. I have also found that tapping into multiple modalities of instruction and student expression to be very effective.
I have been a Social Studies teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools for the past 17 years. During that time, I have taught US History A and B as well as NSL Government. I am currently teaching 8th grade US History A. US History was also my focus of study in college.
I have both used and taught students how to use Dreamweaver for a number of years. In the Web Design class that I teach, I first introduce students to HTML which will serve as their foundation, then slowly introduce them to Dreamweaver. We start with getting acclimated to the software by setting up a basic page or template. Then I introduce them to the basic features one at a time, such as inserting an image, links, and formatting text.
Although I am a secondary teacher, I do have experience teaching elementary students as well, particularly with the older ones. For 3 years I taught summer enrichment classes to elementary students, ranging from grades 1 through 5. We worked primarily on reading, writing, and math skills.

As a Social Studies teacher for the past 17 years, I have spent a lot of time teaching Geography to my students. This includes, but is not limited to, reading physical and political maps, teaching physical geography / landforms, location (latitude and longitude), resources, and demographics. I also construct "mental maps" with my students so they understand the placement of major physical and political features on the planet.
In the winter of 1996 I was snowed in with a computer and a book on HTML. That was when I constructed my first website. Since then, I have taught myself the language of HTML and have authored many websites and have won an award for my work. I currently teach a web design class where I teach my students how to build websites, from scratch, without the use of a web editor.
I have used Outlook for my email and calendar needs for over 15 years. In the school system where I work Outlook is used on a daily basis to communicate with each other and to schedule appointments. I am proficient at using most of Outlook's options and customizing its settings and can teach it to others.
As a Social Studies teacher, I am teaching and reinforcing reading skills consistently in my classroom. In addition, I have taught Reading in a Saturday school program for the past 7 years. I have also taught summer school reading courses for several years to Middle School students.
I have worked with a wide range of students with special needs throughout my teaching career. I was a Special Education teacher for several years, working in a self contained program for students with emotional disabilities. I taught several summers for Montgomery County Public School's Extended School Year (ESY) program, where I worked with elementary and middle school children with learning and physical disabilities. Even in my years as a general educator, I continue to work with special needs students in a general education classroom setting, including students with Individual Educational Plans (IEP) and 504 plans as well as speakers of other languages. I implement lessons using the UDL, Universal Design for Learning, to differentiate instruction for the different learning styles in my classroom. I work closely with the LAD and ED programs at my school to insure that my students needs are being met. I have taken post graduate classes and workshops within our school system to learn strategies to better assist students with special needs.
