Hi, my name is Isaac and I'm looking for opportunities to tutor and help teach math and/or physics. I am currently a senior mathematics major at the University of Maryland, and because of my major, I have studied math extensively and am comfortable teaching math ranging from pre-algebra to college level calculus. I also have previous experience tutoring mathematics particularly, SAT Math, SAT II Math (both level 1 and 2), and AP Calculus AB&C. My own scores on these exams in the past are as follows:
SAT Math-780, SAT Math level 2 - 780, AP Calculus AB - 5, AP Calculus C - 4
Even though my AP Calculus exam scores granted me the appropriate college credits, I nonetheless retook calculus at the college level to bolster my understanding and practice of the subject.
I have also studied engineering at the Univ. of MD and as a result have completed several courses of physics. The subject matter from these courses included mechanics and kinetics, thermodynamics, optics, electricity and magnetism, EM waves, relativistic physics and an introduction to quantum mechanics. I have also tutored students at both the high school and college levels in general physics.
In my past experiences as a tutor, and as a student myself, I realize how discouraging it can be for a student to dedicate their time and energy in a class and not achieve the result that they want. Neither math nor physics are simple subjects and when students struggle with certain concepts or theories they need to be encouraged to ask questions and be given the freedom to openly discuss their ideas and understanding. It is with this approach and mindset that I try to be an effective tutor. Mistakes are an inevitable and necessary part of the learning process and, I take it upon myself as a tutor to maintain a positive atmosphere and be encouraging while working through mistakes.
I am also a soldier in the US Army Reserve and have gone through background checks with the Department of Defense without any issues. My time throughout army service and training has been of great benefit to me in how I work and communicate with other people. I understand the importance of patience and generally like to work in a relaxed but diligent environment. Above all else, the army has reinforced my beliefs that with dedication, hard work, and a positive attitude you can overcome and achieve almost anything.
Thank you for taking the time to view my page, and God bless.
