I recently retired from a local private high school. I have taught all math subjects including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB. I have taught math for 44 years. I have tutored students privately over the last 30 years. When I tutor, I usually meet for one hour. If I find the student is not responding, or has difficulty staying on task, I stop and talk to them about what interests them most. This usually gets them focused and we can continue. Having taught many years, I have many work sheets and other extra outside material to share. I have also taught an SAT prep course for 6 years. Last year, the son of a former student was home-schooled. I had the pleasure of teaching him him one hour per week.

Kevin has been tutoring two of my high school daughters for several weeks (geometry and pre-calculus w/analysis) and they've both found it very helpful. It's been particularly valuable before tests. Kevin is clear, concise, and very patient. Another bonus is how flexible he is. Recently, one of my girls discovered an upcoming test in two days that wasn't previously scheduled. Kevin was booked on the night we needed him, but called the day before to advise us that he'd had a cancellation and could make it after all. We were most appreciative. The girls are both having a great experience and have more confidence going into tests.

Both of our children are significantly benefiting from Kevin's first-class math tutorials. His 40 years of teaching experience and ability to apply math tangibly to real life problems make him extremely effective. He communicates clearly and asks questions to guide their math problem solving (which makes our kids have to think!). He is patient with our son, who has Asperger's, and has been able to help him overcome frustration with a few areas that he initially had trouble grasping. Our daughter, who is a 11 year old math wiz, has been super motivated by Kevin's ability to throw math challenges at her and help advance her interest in higher level problem solving. Kevin is a real scientific, trained mathematician whose intelligence is evident but so is his humility and kindness. The guy has a deft touch with math. He's definitely someone who we could use to tutor the kids throughout high school. We could not be happier. I have taught Algebra 1 throughout my 44 year history of teaching. I have used the parts of Algebra 2 and material in future courses to know what is most important to cover in Algebra 1.

I have taught Algebra 2 since my second year of teaching (1969). I have taught out of several different texts and am well versed in the material and the sequence of topics. Also, I have taught higher level math subjects and understand what comes up in Precalculus and Calculus, to better get the student ready for these classes.

My college minor was Economics, and I took many college courses in American history. Also, I am interested in what happens and has happened throughout my lifetime and earlier. I did my student teaching in American History and current events.

I have raised an autistic stepson from the age of 8 through his 21st year when he graduated high school. I am tutoring a middle school student who is diagnosed with Aspergers. I have taught students for the last 44 years, some of whom have been diagnosed with ADHD and Aspergers.

I studied piano from my 2nd grade to my freshman year in college. I took clarinet lessons from 4th grade to high school and 2 years in college. I sang tenor throughout high school and college. I now sing bass in choirs in the DC area. I also have sight singing practice and completed 1 year of music theory.

I have taught geometry for at least 40 of my 44 years of teaching. I find students have a difficult time with geometry because it is a different mindset than algebra. It is not really about memorization so much as visualization of the ideas. That is, it is more about why something is a certain way rather than memorizing ideas.

I have taught high school math for 44 years. The subjects I have taught are Algebra 1 and 2 for all those years and Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus for at least 35 years. I have tutored all of these subjects for at least 5 years.
