If you are seeking an energetic and engaging tutor with a creative approach to teaching English, then look no further. I am the tutor you seek. My education and experience is a mixture of the theatrical arts, law and business, which gives me a unique approach to teaching and the ability to work well with and engage both children and adults.
I believe a successful teacher creates a learning atmosphere where the students: 1) look forward to attending and participating in class; 2) learn and comprehend the material presented; 3) are inspired to take what they learn in the classroom and incorporate it into their daily lives; and 4) have a positive impact on others due to the knowledge they have gained from the class. I believe it is important to create an environment where the students are encouraged to speak and participate because the purpose of learning a language is to communicate.
My interest in a teaching career abroad is based on my Peace Corps experience in Romania from 2002-2004. I created a theatre competition for the local high schools. The program was designed to strengthen and improve the students' English skills and at the same time develop their project management abilities. Each student team had to write, produce, and perform an original play in English. They received classes in acting, dramatic writing, budgeting, lighting, staging, and publicity. At the end, the teams performed their plays in English. This project is definitely the high-point of my 2 years in Romania. One of the former student participants now continues the competition and has traveled the world working in theatre. Most recently, I received my TESOL/TESL/TEFL teaching certification from Oxford Seminars.
Prior to my Peace Corps experience, I was a litigation attorney in Washington, DC with a large law firm. I received my J.D. in 1996 from American University, Washington College of Law where I finished in the top 10% of my class. I am barred in both NY and DC. Before going to law school, I lived for many years in New York City and worked as an actor, appearing in numerous television shows, music videos, and theatrical productions. I was a member of Actor's Equity, Screen Actors Guild, and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. My undergraduate degree was a BFA from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. I am also a certified Pastry Chef and presently own and operate my baking company.
