My teaching and tutoring experience career spans a period of more than 11 years at both high school and college levels. As a graduate assistant, I was responsible for teaching and tutoring undergraduate students in general and organic chemistry. During my final year of grad school, I was the recipient of TA of the year.
Nine years of post-secondary education in chemistry has adequately prepared me to effectively teach and tutor this subject at both high school and undergraduate levels. After graduate school, I taught chemistry and physical science at the high school level for seven years. My teaching approach, coupled with effective strategies, make it possible for struggling and special education students to master and apply chemistry concepts with ease.
The secret of unlocking chemistry concepts is based on understanding the fundamentals. Mastery of these fundamentals is the cornerstone of the chemistry. For instance, one cannot expect to solve complicated stoichiometric problems or mole-related calculations unless he or she masters chemical symbols, atomic structure and bonding, atomic and molecular weights, formulas of compounds and molecules, and writing balanced chemical equations. Once one appreciates the connectivity of key concepts, which are sometimes presented in a classroom environment as isolated and disjointed ideas, then the subject comes alive as one whole unit. My role is to assist students in identifying the individual pixels that make the chemistry picture come alive and emerge from the shadows.
If you are looking for a high school or undergraduate general/organic chemistry tutor, look no further. We'll work together on the fundamentals and then fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle that will catapult you to wherever you are in the course. However, this will take commitment and hard work on your part to experience positive changes.
