My calling has always been teaching. I’ve dabbled in other areas like Financial Advising etc but my first love is teaching. I am a Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry major with a minor in Biochemistry. I can teach a wide range of subjects. I’ve taught Middle school and High school Math, Integrated Science, Chemistry, Geography and even Music. I also possess an M Sc. in Computer Science and as an Associate Professor at Hampton University in VA, taught Computer Programming (mainly in java), Computer Security and Computer Literacy (MS Office Tools). I’ve also tutored adults in Community Colleges, as well as those pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in Chemistry, Math and Computer Science concepts. I did a postgraduate Diploma course in Education from the University of the West Indies and was one of two students to graduate at the top of my class with distinction in theory as well as practice.

I am passionate about everything I do and my love of learning continues to grow. I meet with my students for face to face teaching at their homes or an agreed upon location. I am also not averse to online teaching, working one-on-one with students via Skype or using visually collaborative classrooms. I tend to be very detail-oriented encouraging students to use a logical method toward developing an understanding of whatever the field of learning. I am however not averse to traditional methods of tutoring if students are more inclined to that approach.

Cancellation Policy: Since each student is assigned a time-slot that could have been assigned to another, and precious time is spent in preparing for each student's class, 24 hour notice of any cancellation will be appreciated. To provide the student with the best opportunity for course success, cancelled classes should be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Each year I will be unavailable between 7:00-9:00 pm on the following days:- January 5th, March 7th and 9th, Good Friday, May 10th, July 25th, and September 26th and 30th. My day of choice to reschedule these classes will be a Saturday, but a weekday may also be chosen if possible.

No matter where you are at in the course that you are pursuing, if it lies within my subject area scope I will definitely guide you to excellence in that area. Contact me and we could start today to place success within your grasp.

My tutoring experiences with Marietta has been extremely rewarding. She is extremely patient, kind, caring and a smart person who truly has a passion in helping others and loves what she does. She has helped me concur my fear in Math and has helped me believe in myself. I truly appreciate her and her work ethics and look forward to an exciting and challenging school year with her in the Fall. Thanks Marietta for being you!

My daughter has always had difficulties with math; primarily, she usually doesn't test well. Since fourth or fifth grade, she's always had trouble keeping up with the rest of the class. Now she's in ninth grade and unfortunately, she has a teacher that lacks patience. She has been working with Marietta since October, 2014 and gradually, her confidence has increased and for the first time EVER, she received an A in math----97 percent in Algebra. We both agree that this would not have been possible without Marietta's help. Our family is grateful for Marietta's help and she has taught my daughter how to really understand and apply the concepts of Algebra.

We are so pleased with the results and my daughter's Algebra grade!

Since working with my daughter, her math confidence has gone through the roof. Her testing confidence has improved and although we are waiting on the county exams to come back my daughter believes she has aced the exam. Thanks Ms. G!

Mrs. Marietta is very patient with you, and she allows you to learn at your own pace. She also comes to you prepared so you can jump right in with the work and waste no time. She makes you feel very comfortable and she always made me feel comfortable to ask questions without thinking that my question was a dumb question. She really helped me with my course and helped me to understand the material, and I felt great and confident going in to take exams. Before I received her help I was not doing so good in the class, but once she started working with me my grade drastically went up and I passed the class with a "B".

Marietta is fantastic. She communicates with the math teacher to make sure she's teaching parallel lessons. She clearly has a passion for math and numbers. If you're looking for a tutor who is engaging and exciting to work with, then she is your number one pick. She's working with our high school daughter right now and will work with our elementary school son when he gets to middle school. We highly recommend her.

Thank you so much for your comments. I really must say that Candus is one of the best tutees that I've ever had. I taught her Algebra I in Middle School and I'm currently her Geometry tutor. A wonderful student, she is indeed a pleasure to teach. Respectful, gracious, alert, attentive, reflective, hard-working, and intent on being the best that she can be, Candus definitely exhibits the characteristics of a high achiever and I am committed to ensuring that she fulfills her potential.

Marietta was very patient, very helpful, very knowledgeable. I would recommend her to everyone I know and I look forward to working with her next week. Thank you so much for sending her to my home to work with my son.

Thank you so much for your recommendation, Delonte. You were alert, attentive and participated well during our tutoring session. I enjoyed it immensely and found it most productive. If this attitude continues at school, as well as during our sessions, your Algebra 2 grade will improve dramatically. I, too, look forward to our next session.

My son seems to be doing well with Marietta. She makes good use of their time together and has a very pleasant personality. Marietta seems to have an excellent command of algebra and is able to relate well to the work he is doing. Marietta is skilled in recognizing his needs and responding to them. So far I think his experience with Marietta has been very positive.

In my opinion Ms Marietta is a great tutor. Most of the time my experience with her was good and other times I couldn't connect or it was miscommunication. I believe she worked fairly well with my daughter and my daughter said that she liked working with her. Ms Marietta have been working with my daughter on her Biology bridge project. To make a long story short, I received an email from her stating that all future classes have been terminated.

I believe she was really unfair to begin working with my daughter on her Bridge Project and not assist seeing the project to the finish and that she had stated in previous email that she would love to continue working with my daughter to complete what they had started. From the first day of tutoring I made her aware that this project was very critical and it was mandatory for my daughter because it is assisting her to be able to graduate. I believed Ms Marietta was a perfect fit for my daughter. My daughter really needed her help. I was not pleased to the fact that she gave no notice in a timely manner that she was entertaining terminating all future sessions.

Now I am back on Wyzant searching for another Biology tutor. I can't justify why Ms Marietta chose to do this and I am aware that she has to right to terminate sessions but I can say that I would not feel comfortable referring her to any of my associates or anyone else who would be in need of a Biology tutor.

Let me begin this comment by quoting from my cancellation policy which I sent out to all my students:

"Since each student is assigned a time-slot that could have been assigned to another, and precious time is spent in preparing for each student's class, 24 hr notice of any class cancellation will be appreciated."

I enjoyed working with this student and enjoyed the time spent in preparing for the classes. However, before accepting the responsibility as tutor, even though I was informed of the student's learning disability, I was not made aware of a serious condition that led to repeated cancellations of classes with, on many occasions, less than 24-hr notice. It is very difficult for learning to take place with such repeated cancellations, especially when there is a time limit to achieve certain results. My apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Our first meeting was to introduce the student and Marietta. I believe there was a genuine connection and laid the foundation for teaching and being taught. A few math concepts were discussed however true tutoring will begin with our first lesson after Spring break. A good beginning.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
