I am a world traveler and have lived in Antarctica...fell through the ice. I was in the Navy and earned three medals, 2 stars, and a 2nd Unit Commendation During Desert Storm. I was a shipboard crane operator. After the war, I gave birth to an autistic child. I believe in thinking out of the box and I worked with him teaching "life skill" lessons. He graduated high school with a diploma. I taught him how to buy groceries, without a list, just hit all the food groups. I gave him $30 and a calculator. I stayed in the parking lot. He came out, spending only $27. But, what did he buy? I didn't tell him. The bags were full of OJ, milk, bread, biscuits, Peanut Butter, Hot Pockets, Pizza, salad, salad dressing, sales items, and two candy bars. I taught him how to get his own hair cut and left the shop. He used his own money to tip. I spent 9 years in Howard County being a student assistant for elementary and middle school special needs children teaching autistic children. I no longer work for the school system but, now I am attempting to get back into writing by describing my methods with my son and how it feels to have a special needs child. I am currently working on a non-fiction book. I also have an interest in feature stories covering a wide area of interests. I have had internships at Daily next to my university, and an internship at the 6th Fleet at the Pubic Affairs Office in Norfolk, Virginia.
Writing is something that can be taught, if you like to read. You just need to find something you feel strongly about and get the first draft out of the way. I read and write about the time after the French Revolution. I know my Lord and Ladies and customs for the Regency time period. It is my goal to add creative fiction to my list. Please feel free to e-mail for any questions Sincerely. Virginia
