I am a native speaker of Arabic and am fluent in English. I have been teaching introductory Arabic courses at a local community college for two years. I have also been teaching and tutoring Arabic to individuals of all levels and all ages since 2000. Whether you are starting with no previous knowledge of Arabic, or at advanced levels, I would be able to help you meet your goal. Weekly sessions for 4-5 months can help a person with no previous knowledge or instruction in Arabic reach a basic level of reading, writing, and speaking (results vary from one person to another, but if you do your homework and practice in-between sessions, it is very common).
I can tutor all levels of modern standard Arabic and the Levantine dialect. I am flexible in terms of the teaching style; I tailor my pace and expectations to each student’s preferences and performance. In the first session, I assess your level, we discuss your goals and learning style, and we set a plan. We can go over available course textbooks or alternative curricula to decide on the option best suited to your starting level, objectives, and learning style. In sessions henceforth, we start by quickly reviewing lessons learned in the previous session, practice as necessary, and go on to new lessons. I can provide periodical quizzes, assessments, and/or write a reference letter explaining your level and abilities, if necessary.
For kids up to 12 years old, I use a variety of methods and instructional tools such as colorful foam and board books, coloring books, flashcards, posters, videos, audios, and games among others (some materials may be at an extra cost). Puzzles, music, drawing, and physical activity are important in a child’s world of learning through exploration and critical thinking. Kids’ lessons usually start with common vocabulary such as shapes, colors, food, family members, etc. and gradually transition to simple 2-3 word sentences after acquiring a certain amount of vocabulary.
I'm comfortable with both face-to-face and online tutoring. I can also accommodate groups and special rate requests. I require a 24 hour cancellation notice; however, I may be able to accommodate a make-up class in cases of unforeseen circumstances, if my schedule permits.
I also tutor essay writing and my favorite sport: table tennis.
