I have been tutoring math for over 4 years with students from diverse backgrounds. My tutoring approach includes the following: (1) talk to students on a peer-level to better understand why they are experiencing difficulties in their subject; (2) work with students to improve the skills that will help them succeed; and (3) help students develop a sense of autonomy and empowerment in math, because confidence is a critical factor in ensuring student success!

I have bachelor's and master's in environmental engineering - testimony to the fact that learning math, biology, and other challenging subjects can actually be easy and fun when equipped with the right techniques and tools!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

In my prior experiences as a tutor, work management skills have been a critical element. I've worked with students to set goals, timelines, or even simple routines to aid them in achieving their study and homework goals. I also incorporate these skills into my own life - that's what has enabled me to complete research for my master's degree in engineering, and continues to aide me in my doctoral research. Rather than hoping techniques simply "rub off" on students, I talk with them through their existing approach to completing work, identifying where we can work together to improve. My students almost always develop a sense of independence - the most gratifying payment for me as a tutor and mentor!

Fantastic tutor and great role model for my girls — My girls are now doing extremely well in math. A subject that they used find very challenging is now one of their favorite! Liz explains concepts very clearly and in a way my girls can understand. Liz has given both of my girls confidence and is an excellent role model for them. ...
