I am a recent graduate of University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a minor in Astronomy. I love learning and I love sharing that passion with others. While at University of Maryland I was a teaching assistant for both Calculus 1 and Calculus 2. I taught two 80 minute discussion sections a week and individually worked with students to help them grasp the difficult concepts. I readily see where and how a student is confused with a concept, and can explain it in a new, understandable way. I always try to connect the abstract mathematical idea to a concrete thing with which we are familiar. In addition, as much as possible, I try to have a student discover the solution him/herself using questions and comments to guide their thinking. This gives more ownership as well as a deeper understanding and a better ability to remember it the next time.
I took a broad range of classes and graduated with a 4.0 in the math department and a 3.89 overall. I enjoy tutoring all levels of math from algebra to calculus to linear algebra. I also love to share all the amazing objects and ideas of astronomy. I spent 3 summers serving middle and high school students as an intern with a youth group. I met with them one on one, in small groups, and led retreats. For fun I love ultimate frisbee, biking, camping, reading and being with people. Whether you are in middle school, high school, or college, I would love to work with you.
