I have 24 years experience working for Montgomery County Public Schools. I have taught Sp ed at Pre-Ac, grade one and grade two levels. I have taught summer school/Book Club for the county. I have also taught Reading Literacy, with a total focus on reading and writing, and have also taught first and second grades, as well as a combination class of GT first and second graders. I have served as Team Leader for both first and second grade. I am currently a Focus Teacher at Gaithersburg Elementary. As part of my responsibility, I teach ten writing classes a week to grades K-5. I have also done math support as well as math acceleration. I am the Gifted/Talented liaison for the school, and accommodate for all standardized tests. Beginning this spring, I will be teaching a Nutrition class to grades 4 and 5.
Besides an MEQ in special education, I have a Masters in Counseling from John's Hopkins. I also hold certificates in primary ed, general ed, reading literacy, special ed, and one for Pupil Personnel Worker. I have received two international humanitarian awards for my work with children and the need to decrease medications, especially antidepressants and antipsychotics. I also serve on the Advisory Council for Empathic Listening and have presented at international conferences. Children are my life. My counseling background gives me a more in depth ability to understand students and deal with their individual issues without the need for medication.
